Guidelines for Making and Keeping Appointments: Appointment Length: 30 minutes for most consultations. For papers exceeding 5 pages and/or clients for whom English is not the first language, consider 60-minute appointments. Information on appointment form: Please complete the entire form so our consultants can be best prepared to help you. Waiting list: If you cannot find an available appointment time, join the waiting list by clicking on the clock icon to the left of the date. Then enter the times you have available for a consultation on that day. You will be contacted by e-mail if an appointment time becomes available. (If you have enabled text messaging in your profile, you will receive a text message as well.) Accessing online consultations: To start a scheduled online consultation, click on the box on the schedule that represents your appointment. A dialogue box will appear (your original appointment form). Then click on the phrase, in red letters, that reads "Start or join online consultation." Punctuality : If you are more than 5 minutes late for an appointment and we have someone arrive at the center or check in online at that time who wants to make an appointment for a consultation, we will consider you a no-show and accommodate that client. (See 7, below.) Canceling an appointment : If you realize you are unable to attend your appointment, please cancel it in advance by clicking on your appointment box on the schedule and selecting "Cancel" at the bottom of the form. You can cancel up to 5 minutes before the start time. No-Show Rule : After 3 no-shows in a semester, you will not be able to make any additional appointments for the rest of the semester. A client whose appointment-making ability has been removed can continue to be seen on a walk-in basis only for the rest of the semester. (If you can have online consultations only, you won't be able to access them for the rest of the term at all because there are no walk-in consultations online.) The Writing Center has this no-show rule because when a client does not show up for an appointment, oftentimes, that time slot could have been used by another client. In other words, your not showing up for your scheduled consultation may prevent another student from getting the writing center services that he or she needs. Having trouble logging in?
